Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials was for years the classic small-office server, with an easy dashboard, automatic PC backup and remote access. This license is for anyone who needs to restore or replace such a server with the same version. English installation, 64-bit.

What the Essentials edition is

Essentials is the Windows Server edition for very small businesses. It supports up to 25 users and 50 devices and, unlike Standard and Datacenter, does not require separate access licenses (CALs) for users. You buy one license and the whole office is covered, as long as you stay within the limits.

Important before you buy

Microsoft support for Windows Server 2012 R2 ended in October 2023 and the version no longer receives free security updates. It is recommended only for specific scenarios: applications that do not run on newer versions, isolated networks, test labs or extending existing 2012 R2 infrastructure until migration. For any new installation we recommend Windows Server 2022 or 2025.

Installation and activation

1. After payment you receive the product key by email.
2. Install the server from an official Microsoft ISO image, on physical hardware or a virtual machine.
3. Enter the key during setup or later in the activation settings.
