Windows Server 2022 RDS, 5 Device CAL, Lifetime License
Windows Server 2022 RDS CAL for 5 devices
Remote Desktop Services (RDS) let users connect to the server and work in applications running on it, such as accounting software, ERP or Office, as if they were installed on their own computer. For each such connection Microsoft requires a Remote Desktop Services access license (RDS CAL). This pack includes licenses for 5 devices.
Why per-device CALs
With per-device RDS CALs (Device CALs), the license belongs to the computer or terminal, not the person. However many users work on the same device, for example in shifts, at a till or at a shared workstation, one license is enough. It is the most cost-effective option when there are fewer devices than users.
Version compatibility
- 2022 RDS CALs cover RD Session Host servers running Windows Server 2022 and earlier versions.
- The license server (RD Licensing) must run Windows Server 2022 or later.
- You cannot mix per-user and per-device CALs on the same server: the licensing mode is set in the RD Session Host configuration.
Delivery and activation
- After payment you receive the license code by email.
- On the license server, open Remote Desktop Licensing Manager, activate the server (if not already activated) and choose Install Licenses.
- Enter the code and select the license type (Per Device).
- In the RD Session Host configuration, set the licensing mode to Per Device and point it to the license server.
Frequently asked questions
Do administrators need RDS CALs?
No. Up to two simultaneous connections for server administration are allowed without RDS CALs.
Is there a grace period?
Yes. After enabling the RD Session Host role there is a 120-day grace period in which the licenses must be installed.
Under Microsoft terms, each user or device accessing the server also needs a Windows Server access license (CAL), in addition to RDS CALs where Remote Desktop Services are used.
