Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024: stability for years

Standard Windows 11 editions receive major feature updates every year that change menus, add apps and sometimes affect specialised software. The LTSC (Long-Term Servicing Channel) edition follows a different philosophy: it stays the same throughout its life and receives only security updates and fixes.

IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 is built on the Windows 11 24H2 core and has one of the longest support cycles Microsoft offers, roughly ten years from its release in 2024.

Where it fits

• Tills and POS systems in retail and hospitality.
• Kiosks, information displays and digital signage.
• Industrial PCs and control machines that must run without interruption.
• Medical and lab equipment running certified software.
• Workstations where unexpected changes are not acceptable.

What sets it apart

• No feature changes: the system you set up today will be the same in a few years.
• Fewer preinstalled apps: no consumer apps included, so it is lighter and cleaner.
• Enterprise security tools: BitLocker, AppLocker, Device Guard and lockdown features for single-purpose devices.
• More relaxed hardware requirements than standard Windows 11 editions, so it can run on smaller or older systems.

Things to keep in mind

LTSC does not include the Microsoft Store or some consumer-style inbox apps by default. If the PC is for everyday home use, Windows 11 Pro is a better choice.
